Deep sea fishing can be an extremely rewarding experience, but it’s an activity that requires some planning. While you might not have control over the ocean conditions, there are some simple things you can do to make your experience more comfortable, enjoyable, and successful. We’ve gathered some tips for deep sea experts to arm you with and ensure you make the most your of your deep sea fishing adventure.

1. Choose the right boat

When it comes to deep sea fishing, not all boats are created equal. In fact, choosing the boat is one of the first steps you can take to create a comfortable experience for yourself. Be sure to choose a boat with a bathroom. Deep sea excursions can take anywhere from a few hours to the entire day, so ensuring you have access to a restroom is critical.

2. Be respectful to the captain and crew

The captain and crew put in a lot of hard work to ensure that your experience is as enjoyable as possible. You may get frustrated if you’re not having much luck hooking fish or if the conditions are not ideal, but don’t take this out on the team that is working hard for you. They want to share their extensive knowledge with you, so crafting a positive relationship with them is essential to a positive experience!

3. Pack smart!

While this one may seem obvious, there are a few must-have items that you should be sure to pack. Sunglasses, hats, sunscreen, and any other sun-protection items should be the first on your list. Spending hours out on the water without these items will not be fun. Additionally, bring anti-nausea precautions in case conditions are rough or you tend ot get seasick. Over-the-counter medications like Dramamine, sea-sickness patches or wristbands, and plenty of water should do the trick.

4. Time your trip wisely

You may not have control over the weather conditions on teh day of your excursion, but you can give yourself the best chance at smooth sailing if you time your trip wisely. Do some research and call around to find out when the best time to go out is. Also, if you’re looking to target certain types of fish, the best time for your adventure will vary. Book your trip during the optimal fishing season to significantly increase your chances of success.
